PRESIDENT BUHARI CALLS FOR RESTRUCTURE OF AU’S SECURITY MECHANISMS

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has called for a restructure of African Union’s (AU) security mechanisms, to eliminate violent extremism, terrorism and banditry from the continent.

President BUHARI made the call in his statement on Peace and Security at the 8th Summit of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Tunis, Tunisa.

President BUHARI in his statement delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, GEOFFREY ONYEAMA, stressed the need for the re-calibration of AU’s Security mechanisms, such as the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), the G5 Sahel and the African Standby Force.

The President said that it was Nigeria’s desire that the 8th TICAD summit saw to expanding the security cooperation and operations between Africa and Japan, within the framework of the New Approach for Peace and Stability in Africa (NAPSA).
