OYO STATE GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR COMMUNITY ACTION AGAINST MALARIA

The Oyo State Government has urged secondary school students to be change agents for community malaria sensitization.

Mrs. ABDUL-RAUUF, advocacy communication and social mobilization officer at the Oyo state ministry of health made this known while speaking at the grand finale of the inter schools malaria essay competition.

The essay competition, organized by Oyo State Malaria Elimination Program (SMEP) in collaboration with the State Ministry of Education and Breakthrough ACTION Nigeria had a total of 19 entries from secondary students in junior and senior category across Oyo state.

Mrs. Abdulrauuf said that secondary school students need to acknowledge themselves as an agent for sensitizing their peers on a community based level to eradicate malaria.

The Oyo State coordinator for breakthrough action Nigeria, Mrs Oluwatoyin Afachung while expressing satisfaction at the success of the program said that the program has yielded positive results most especially in the establishment of health peer groups in some secondary schools.

The winner of the essay competition at the senior level; Olusola Abigail and the winner at the junior level Oguntade Semilore also shared their thoughts on wining the competition.
