NO ROOM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES BY POLICEMEN – FPRO

Written by on September 19, 2022

The Force Public Relations Officer, MUYIWA ADEJOBI, says the Nigeria Police Force does not condone indiscipline and violation of citizens’ rights by police officers.

ADEJOBI made this known in a statement on Monday in a reaction to his previous tweet on Saturday where he had suggested that no civilian had the right to retaliate even when if he or she is assaulted by a policeman on uniform.

A human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), FEMI FALANA, had also tackled ADEJOBI, saying assault on civilians by policemen attracts 25-year imprisonment.

ADEJOBI in the statement however noted that his tweet was misquoted, noting that two wrongs don’t make a right and that civilians who encounter officers working contrary to the law should report to the right channels rather than take laws into their own hands.
