SON CALLS ON BUILDERS TO PATRONIZE QUALITY MATERIALS IN CONSTRUCTION WORK

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, (SON) has called on builders to always patronize quality materials with the approval of MANCAP in the construction of buildings.

The Oyo State SON coordinator, ADETOYE ADEYINKA, made this known after he and his team examined the cause of a building collapse in Ibadan.

You would recall that a five storey building, which was said to be a hotel, caved in at Awosika, Bodija area of Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Undisclosed sources said seven injured persons have so far been rescued from the rubble of the building, but it could not be ascertained if any life was lost in the incident yet.

ADEYINKA said that incompetency and substandard materials applied to minimize cost of production caused the building collapse while he urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitisation and advice on how to go about construction of standard storey building.
