The Oyo state government has pledged support for the agitations of the Nigeria labour congress NLC which it described as a legitimate struggle.

Hundreds of the protesters comprised of members of ASUU, TUC, NLC and other affiliated union groups stormed the Oyo state secretariat in their solidarity with the labour action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU about 6 months ago.

Governor SEYI MAKINDE, while addressing the protesters, expressed displeasure over the strike that has kept university students at home for months, promising that appropriate steps that will make the Federal government listen to the voice of the masses will be taken.

The Governor, represented by his deputy, Barrister BAYO LAWAL promised that in no distance time students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH will return to school, insisting that the state government is doing its best to ensure that its work force enjoy maximum benefits.

Chairman, NLC, Oyo State chapter, Comrade KAYODE MARTINS, earlier in his speech said that the protest was fuelled by the possible negative after effects of students being at home for long.
