Written by on April 29, 2020

THE NIGERIA CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL, NCDC, IS TARGETING TWO MILLION NIGERIANS FOR CORONAVIRUS TESTS IN THE NEXT THREE MONTHS.

SPEAKING IN ABUJA YESTERDAY DURING THE DAILY BRIEFING OF THE PRESIDENTIAL TASK FORCE ON COVID-19 CONTROL, CHIKWE IHEKWEAZU SAID THE TARGET WAS IN LINE WITH PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S DIRECTIVE FOR AGGRESSIVE REINFORCEMENT OF TESTING AND CONTACT TRACING MEASURES.

IHEKWEAZU, HOWEVER, EXPRESSED FRUSTRATION WITH THE PROGRESS SO FAR MADE IN TESTING AS SOME STATES HAVE NOT BEEN COOPERATING WITH IT.

THE DIRECTOR ADDED THAT THE TASK FORCE WILL BE ENGAGING AGGRESSIVELY WITH EVERY STATE TO GET THEIR THEM TO WORK WITH THE TASK FORCE AS IT WILL INCREASE THEIR CAPACITY TO TEST.

ACCORDING TO IHEKWEAZU, THE ENTRY POINT INTO COVID-19 CONTROL IS TESTING, BECAUSE OF THE PREVALENCE OF A NUMBER OF ASYMPTOMATIC INFECTIONS AND MILDLY SYMPTOMATIC PEOPLE.
